The announcements came today. Impacted individuals - in some cases entire teams - were told by their leaders today. My VP and her entire team was displaced....except me. I am the lone employee from my original team. There will be new people joining, but we haven't seen those org charts yet.
HR calls is "survivor syndrome." Sounds crazy but I can understand it now. I've been through re-orgs before, but this is the first time I'm the only one left! I really did wonder why me? What did I do to be kept? It makes me sad to know my cube-mate has the added stress of looking for a new job (in company or outside) while her husband is going through chemo. She has enough to worry about. So, why me? I know HR has their little formulas for figuring it out and the SVPs had their say to begin with and, well, it's out of my control.
Then I wonder, how will I get all this work done when the people helping me have been displaced?! Yes, they are all around for the next 6 weeks, but let's be realistic - how much work are they going to concentrate on? I would be concentrating on posting and interviewing myself. It's going to be a long six weeks.......

Fuck AMEX - Countrywide is hiring (LOL)
Imagine trying to get your SoW through GP on your own - well, it's a reality now .... good luck!!! (LMAO)
damn, sharon is displaced? how did that happen? didnt they just promote her to vp?
Always the good with the bad, na? So you were spared, but now have to make for that in a heavier workload. It's all relative I suppose. Are you happy to stay on? Is that what you wanted? Sometimes it's a blessing when other's make the tough choices for you I guess. Hard to make them on your own.
Best of luck! Maybe you'll see this as a sign to stick around for awhile and see what transpires :)

Don't go to Countrywide - I hear it's worse than GP
Maybe that's why they kept me, I can deal with SoW and GP!

Not sure if I'm happy. Part of me is, part of me isn't. The irony of this - my new role will be what my current role was supposed to be! Now, if they can tell me who's taking the old one......
What also really sucks is several of my friends also got displaced. It's just not right.
what's very degrading about this re-org (among other things) is the fact that Squeri says all jobs that "do not add value have been eliminated."
So, exactly what was it that the displaced employees were doing that was non-value add? And how is that a respectful, business-based decision?

pick a day for a party and you won't miss that guitarist so much!
@anon -
the execs never know what's really value add...they're too busy causing re-work because they won't listen to the employees or customers!
I don't get the respectful, business decision either. "Displacing" entire orgs?? Just don't get it. Especially when "new" groups are on the org chart sounding an awful lot like the old groups!!!
I think I figured out why I was kept -- all because I was (well, still am for a while) the Project Mgr of a tool the business wants.
I still don't get it.

How about the CIO mumbo-jumbo? Listening to his call today didn't tell me a damn thing. In fact the first 30 minutes was just his email all over again!
People want to know 'what's in it for me' not polictical BS.
Squeri is an ass. He can listen to Gartner and implement their ideas all he wants. What ever happened to hiring REAL CIOs? The proof is in the pudding. Let's see if his model works. If it doesn't, I'm sure Ken will just move him to a new leadership role as if nothing happened ... seems to be contagious at American Express.
